Fantasy sports games have become an increasingly widespread form of online entertainment for sports fans worldwide. The games allow players to create virtual teams of real-life athletes and earn rewards based on their statistical performance in actual sporting events. With the growth of sports data accessibility and the ease of participating in fantasy sports through the internet, millions of players have flocked to these games in recent years. Fantasy sports can be played for fun or for money, with many websites and apps offering platforms for players to join leagues and compete against others.
Paid fantasy sports games typically require players to pay an entry fee, which is used to create a prize pool. The winner(s) of the contest receive a portion of the prize pool, depending on the contest rules and payouts. Paid fantasy sports games are offered by websites and apps such as DraftKings and FanDuel, and offer a new level of excitement for sports fans who get to experience the thrill of building, managing, and competing with their own virtual teams of athletes for the chance to win real money prizes.
On the other hand, free fantasy sports games are online contests that players can participate in without any entry fee. These games offer a platform for players to test their skills and knowledge of the sport and compete against other fans, but without the financial commitment of paid games. However, free fantasy contests may have limited prize pools or none at all, and may be supported by ads that can negatively impact the user experience. Additionally, the lack of an entry fee means there is no financial incentive for players to compete, which can reduce the level of excitement.
Strikers introduces a new approach to the fantasy sports industry by offering three forms of engagement with sports and the platform through the use of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). The platform consists of three components: Strikers Passes, a governance token that provides users with the ability to earn fees for contributing ideas that generate revenue for the Strikers platform, being an active community member, and unlocking access to a predictions game with weekly and seasonal rewards; Athlete Cards, which earn points based on the real-life performance of athletes in sporting events; and Founders Cards, which allow users to govern the platform, participate in investment clubs, and collect fees generated by Strikers. Unlike traditional fantasy sports games, Strikers does not involve betting or gambling, as users do not risk their money or anything of value to create prize pools. Instead, they use their skills to form teams of top-performing athletes. This creates a safe and secure environment for sports fans to engage and showcase their skills while making money.
Strikers is managed and operated by Strikers DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), which receives all proceeds from the sales of NFTs and fees generated by the platform. The proceeds from the sale of Athlete Cards are sent to the DAO treasury in USDC and used to generate yield through dedicated SEC-compliant Investment Clubs organized within the DAO. The aim of these Investment Clubs is to earn yield to contribute to the prize pools and reward Strikers Founder Card holders. Additionally, the treasury is used to repurchase Athlete Cards from users with the aim of either burning them at the end of the season or reselling them to other users during the season.
The Athlete Cards retain their initial value and can be sold back to Strikers by the holders at the same price they were initially purchased for. The use of NFTs provides players with a new way to build a team of Athlete Cards and earn points that are reflected on Strikers' leaderboards. These points can lead to monetary rewards if the users manage to advance to the top 250 teams during each gameweek or season.
